The Atlantic Hurricane Seasons runs from June 1 to November 30 each year.
The Citadel's mission in the event of a hurricane that is expected to make landfall in or near the Charleston area is to take all actions necessary to prevent the loss of life and to minimize damage to property, equipment, utility systems, and facilities. In the aftermath of a storm, the college turns its attention to recovery operations and restoring essential services so the campus can return to normal operations.
The safety of our students, faculty and staff are of the utmost importance. Each summer members of The Citadel staff conduct hurricane drills so they are ready if a tropical storm or hurricane comes near. In addition the college has a detailed Hurricane Operations Plan outline our preparations and how we will communicate information to students, parents, faculty and staff and the greater Charleston community.
For the latest hurricane-related Citadel information, stay tuned to www.citadel.edu and the DAWG line at (843) 953-3294. If severe weather (or some other emergency) prevents you from reaching /www.citadel.eduor the DAWG line, stay tuned to www.bulldogalert.info for the latest information.

How to protect yourself from getting and spreading the flu |

Last fall an outbreak of swine flu, also called the H1N1 virus, occurred across the United States. At The Citadel, cadets, faculty and staff and visitors to campus are encouraged to take basic precautions to prevent infection and fight the spread of the H1N1 virus or any cold or flu virus:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and often, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cover your cough with your sleeve, not your hand.
- Stay home and contact your health care provider if you're sick.
- Cadets with fever and respiratory symptoms should report to the Infirmary ASAP.
- Stay away from people who are sick.
- Eat a healthy diet and get plenty of rest.
- Avoid touching your eyes/nose/mouth after contact with other people or surfaces which might be contaminated.
The Citadel infirmary has already begun offering annual seasonal flu vaccines to the Corps of Cadets.
Because H1N1 is a new strain of influenza A the vaccine received for traditional flu will not protect a person from getting this flu. The Citadel has Tamiflu on hand and expects to receive the Swine Flu vaccine when it becomes available in October.

BulldogAlert |
|

|
Wednesday, 05 March 2008 10:16 |
As part of our ongoing effort to provide the safest environment possible for our students, faculty, and staff, we have implemented a new emergency notification system called BulldogAlert which will allow us to communicate important information to our campus population.
In the event of an emergency, college officials will contact all or select constituents by email, text message and by phone with a recorded message. However, we need your help to make this system work effectively. It is vital that you keep your contact information up-to-date so that we are able to contact you in a crisis. Students may update their information online by logging in to PAWS. Employees should log into WISE. (Note: If you have difficulty logging in to PAWS or WISE, please make sure you have all pop-up blockers disabled.)
Please rest assured that the safety of our cadets, CGC students, faculty and staff is our foremost concern. College officials and our Public Safety department are working together to create a safe environment for our faculty, staff and students, and with your help we will be successful in our efforts. |
